All about Us

How We Met

Jon and Lynn both went to medical school together, however it took 2 years before they really crossed paths. One night in their 3rd year, they both found themselves at a swing dance hall and had a wonderful time as Lynn attempted to teach Jon how to swing her around. He asked if she wanted to get ice cream afterwards and she thought "why not?." After talking into the wee hours of the night, they became friends, and after many months of being "just friends", they found themselves in love.... and the rest is history!

Lynn grew up in Mesquite Texas, a small burb of the big city, with her loving but crazy family of 5. She went to college at Rice University in Houston and then returned to Dallas for medical school, where she met Jon. Currently she is a 3rd year Internal Medicine resident at Parkland Hospital She love tennis, photography, shoes, and travelling with Jon.

Jon grew up in Korea until he was 11 with his sweet family of 4 and then moved to Dallas only 20 miles from where Lynn grew up. He went to Cornell for university and then also returned to Dallas for med school where he fell in love with Lynn. He is in his second year of his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He loves tennis, cartoons, and hanging out with Lynn.

The Proposal

Jon and Lynn had made plans to go out with their friends for New Years Eve. However, Lynn came home late after a busy day of work and very grumpy. Jon, being the great provider that he is, had a sushi dinner awaiting her at home from their favorite sushi restaurant. Dinner was very good, however Lynn remained quite grumpy. Jon said "I know what will cheer you up! I have a New Year's present for you!" Lynn immediately perked up as she loves presents! She closed her eyes, and he place something in her hands. When she opened them, in her hands, layed a beautifully made scrapbook that Jon had made of their 3 years together. It was very sweet... and on the last page he wrote: "New beginnings" with a picture of a ring. Lynn began crying and almost missed the proposal because she was crying so much. But of course she said yes! It was wonderful way to ring the new year in.

Our House Party

Bridal Party:

Maid of Honor:

Vi Nguyen: my beautiful older sister, my unconditional partner in crime, my unofficial "wedding coordinator"... we've weathered everything together! She's now a wonderful mother to the cutest boy in the world, Thaden.

Bridemaids:
Courtney Lang : My "Swoomie" - it was best friends from first sight. God knew what he was doing when it paired us up together as roommies when we decided to go potluck freshman year in college. Courtney is an amazing soul with a vibrant sense of style, the truest of "kindred spirits."

Amy Tang: What can I say about Amy? She is one of my most loyal friends and sister in Christ. She's one of those few people that you can feel absolutely real with as she is always real with you. I love her gentle spirit and beautiful presence!

Julie Turner: Julie and I were in seperable in high school... oh what adventures we had together! Despite our distance, she has always been a sister to me. I can never thank her enough for being one of the factors that initially led me to grow in my relationship with God. I love you!

Misoo Kim: Misoo is Jon's younger sister. Misoo has an amazing presence about her, she is not only beautiful, but also incredibly clever with a great sense of humor. I'm so glad she's going to stay in Dallas for her residency and I can't wait to be her sister!

Tonia Yee: Tonia, my spunky sweet friend... man, can she make me laugh! I would have never gotten through med school and residency without her by my side. We've been through it all and I'm so honored for her to stand by me on our wedding day.

Allis Cho: Allis, Tonia, and I were the triple threat in med school. Together, we were a force to be reckoned with! Allis was there in the beginnings of "jon and lynn!" She's currently far away in Shreveport, and I miss her effervescent laughter, unbridled enthusiasm for everything, and unfaltering loyalty.

Minh Do:
Sweet cousin o' mine. She's beautiful inside and out, with a natural charm and grace. I always have a so much fun when I get to hang out with her. And have you heard her sing?? Freakin' amazing!

Grace Ho: Another sweet cousin' o mine... my sister, minh, grace, and I grew up together devising all sorts of trouble together. Grace is always on fire for God! I'm so glad to have her by my side at the wedding!

Local Activities

Things to do in Dallas! (Click on the titles or pics to get to the links)
---------------------
1. Dallas World Aquarium - one of my favorite places in Dallas! This is tropical rain forest right smack in the middle of downtown. There are an assortment of animals from monkeys to otters to penguins and an amazing collection of exotic aquatic animals.

2. Dallas Museum of Art - located in the Arts district, the DMA has a number of nice permanent collections, but also has cool exhibits that come through often. The DMA also hosts great events throughout the week including Thursday and Friday late nights with music, drinks and art.
3. Nasher Sculpture Garden - The Nasher Sculpture Garden is a neat little place nestled in downtown that features a serene outdoor sculpture garden against the background of the city's urban skyline. It's a beautiful place and the collection has some really beautiful pieces.

4. Dallas Arboretum - The Dallas Arboretum is one of our favorite places! The arboretum is huge and with many beautiful gardens. It holds many different events throughout the year, including concerts on their huge lawn by the lake. When we go, I feel like I'm in a Seurat painting!

5. JFK 6th Floor Museum - see how it all went down, the infamous day when JFK was gunned down. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza chronicles the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. You can tour the 6th floor and the window that was believed to be the alleged sniper's perch.

6. American Airlines Center - Located just down the street from our venue, the American Airlines center is home to the Dallas Mavericks! It also hold many different events and concerts. Check out the website before our wedding to see what events are occurring around our wedding.

7. Shopping - If there is anything that Dallas has plenty of, it's shopping. I think the Dallas as more malls per square capita than in any city in the US! If are some shopping hot spots that may interest you while you are visiting Dallas.

8. Of course Dallas is also home to the Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers. If you're more of the betting type, you can go to the Horse Track or you are a speed demon you can visit the Texas Motor Speedway. Now if you want to do Texas, good ol' country western style, you can go to Texas Stockyards and Billy Bobs in Ft. Worth.

Restaurants - Here are some of our favorite restaurants!
---------------------
Sam Buca
Koreatown
Kirin Court
Breadwinners
BlueFish Sushi
The Porch
Cubra Libra
Momo's Pasta

What to wear?

Texas weather is oh so unpredictable....
although we are praying for beautiful warm weather, as we all know it can rain or snow in March!

Please be aware of the weather reports the day of the wedding and dress accordingly as most of the ceremony and reception will be outdoors.

Ladies, don't forgot your cardigan or wrap for when evening falls so you don't get cold in your pretty dresses!

News and Updates!

04/20/08 This is our first post! 11 more months to go before the big day. We are so excited to begin planning our wedding. So far we only have our venue... but we are super excited about it. Marie-Gabrielle is so beautiful and is perfect for us. It is a little difficult to juggle work and planning a wedding... but it certainly makes my days more fun!

04/24/08 Yay! We have the date our "engagement party" or Dam Hoi set for 05.18.08 at my house. The Dam Hoi is a special Vietnamese ceremony/feast when the two families "officially meet." It entails the groom's family bringing all sorts of gifts in pairs (wine, tea, fruit and sweets) to ask the bride's family for her hand in marraige. Then everyone celebrates. It'll be great fun and I'm so excited for it. I only have 4 weeks to get my Ao Dai made. Gotta get on the ball!

05/18/08 We had our Dam Hoi yesterday and it was a wonderful afternoon! Too bad all the pictures are of me bawling my way through the ceremony! Still, it was great to see our two families together. Jon's father made a wonderful speech that started the waterworks, it really touched me! My parents were wonderful and made our house and backyard so beautiful for the occasion. I'll post pictures soon!

06/06/08 I just had my birthday extravaganza this week! Turned the big 28! gasp! so close to thirty! that's okay, it was such a great week that I got to spend with my family and friends. On Wedneday, my actually birthday, the girls came over and we went to go watch SATC which was so good. Then on Thursday, Jon suprised me with dinner and then a private dance lesson at a studio. Our teacher told us we'd be ready for dancing withe stars soon! hmm.. i think not, but it was still alot of fun. Then today Jon's parents threw me a birthday BBQ. They set up a table outside in their pretty garden and invited my family to come over. mmmm... so much yummy food! I felt so loved and blessed to be surrounded by such awesome people!
